Hi Dancer!

I’m Kat Murphy, founder of Ballet for Every Body, lifelong dancer, and teacher for over a decade.

I dedicated most of my life to dance – ballet, modern, and contemporary mainly – but struggled to feel confident, even at the peak of my strength, dancing six-hours or more per day in college, getting positive feedback from artists I deeply looked up to, and booking great gigs as a soloist or core company member didn’t change my self-perception.

In my late-twenties I took a break for a few years and when I finally returned, my confidence reached an all-time low.

I didn’t like my new body. I was frustrated that I struggled to do things I used to do with ease. And, my body had become so tight, ballet class actually hurt my joints for the first time.

Through continually teaching, I began to learn how to ditch the negative self talk and focus on the love of the artform. I began improving both my abilities and my confidence until now when I’m dancing more than I have in years, enjoying my bodies abilities, and having so much fun in class and rehearsal!

I love nothing more than to spread my love and knowledge of dance to teens and adults. Whether returning dancers who may have had similar experiences to me, beginner dancers who are looking to learn a solid technical foundation for their newfound love of dance, or dancers who are trying to level up from beginner to intermediate, intermediate to advanced, or student to professional.

No matter where you are in your dance journey, I look forward to sharing the love and pleasure of moving with you.
